Scottsville Baptist Church has been a welcoming place to me, and I'm sure you will find it to be the same for you. On September 12 the church voted to call me to serve as interim pastor. I am excited to work with the folks at Scottsville during this interim period as they search for a permanent pastor.
You will find Scottsville Baptist to be a good balance of historic and contemporary. The worship service has a blend of music styles. People of all ages attend. Some are new to the church, and some have been in the congregation for decades. The church has a marvelous history of 170 years. Visit worship, and you will find a church where the Bible is at the center of church life as the guide for worship, education and ministry. The goal is to have a warm fellowship in which all people will find a place to grow in faith.
My wife, Judy, and I come to Scottsville Baptist from Arlington, Virginia where I served as a pastor for nineteen years. Earlier I served in Washington, D.C. and San Francisco, California. Through the Center for Congregational Health I have been trained to serve churches that are in between pastors. Scottsville Baptist Church is my first assignment as an interim pastor.
In addition I am an adjunct professor at the John Leland Center for Theological Studies. I have taught Biblical studies and church leadership. I am originally from Kentucky. I went to school at Baylor University (B.A.) and Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div. and Ph.D.).
My wife and I live in Charlottesville. We moved to central Virginia so that Judy could care for our granddaughter while our son and daughter-in-law complete their training as resident physicians at UVA hospital. Judy is originally from Texas. She has just retired from the U.S. Department of Justice. We have two other sons. One is a pastor in North Carolina, and the other is a physician in Chicago.
During this time of service I hope to get to know the people of Scottsville and its surrounding area well. Please, call on me if I can serve you as a pastor. Visit a worship service and get acquainted with the fine people who make up Scottsville Baptist Church.
